Palawlibrary, Bar Forge Agreement

by Daniel Cirucci

Philadelphia Bar Reporter
Volume 32, Number 7, July 2003

The Philadelphia Bar Association has entered into an agreement with palawibrary.com to provide specially priced subscriptions to the palawlibrary.com research and information service and other special benefits to members.

The agreement is part of a plan announced by Chancellor Audrey C. Talley earlier this year to provide an effective and economical online legal research service tailored expressly to the needs of Philadelphia lawyers.

“We are delighted to be joining with American Lawyer Media and Jenkins Law Library to provide this new service to our members,” Tally said. The Chancellor described palawlibrary.com as “the only real research tool for county law, including Philadelphia County and the other counties in the state. This program fills a pressing need - a need we have long wanted to fill for Philadelphia lawyers.”

Talley said that the new partnership “brings together the power of ALM, Jenkins and the Bar association to provide an in-depth research and information package to our members.” She said she expects that members will respond enthusiastically to the new service.

Palawlibrary.com is an integrated Pennsylvania-focused legal research Web site that provides easy and inexpensive access to judicial opinions, trial listings, court rules, news archives from The Legal Intelligencer and Pennsylvania Law Weekly and other information.

Additional details of the new program for Philadelphia Bar Association members will be provided soon. For more information visit http://www.palawlibrary.com.

Palawlibrary, Phila. Bar Reach Deal

The Legal Intelligencer

Published: June 20, 2003

Palawlibrary - the most comprehensive and thorough online legal research service dedicated to Pennsylvania law - has reached an agreement with the Philadelphia Bar Association, one of the nation’s oldest and most distinguished bar associations, to provide specially priced subscriptions to this online service as well as other benefits to bar association members.

The agreement was reached earlier this month. It is the second signed agreement between a bar association and palawlibrary.com, an online service resulting from a strategic alliance between the Jenkins Law Library and American Lawyer Media-Pa. This new agreement represents a significant partnership between the legal research service and Pennsylvania’s largest county bar association.

“The Philadelphia Bar Association is delighted to join with American Lawyer Media and Jenkins Law Library to provide this valuable and economical service to our members,” said Philadelphia Bar Chancellor Audrey C. Talley. “Palawlibrary is the only real research tool for county law. It fills a pressing need - a need that we have long wanted to fill for Philadelphia lawyers.

“This new partnership brings together the power of ALM, Jenkins and the bar association to provide an in-depth research and information package tailored to the everyday needs of our members and presented as a real member benefit. We expect that Philadelphia Bar Association members will respond enthusiastically to this new service. We look forward to the continued growth and development of palawlibrary as part of our continuing plan to help our members advance professionally and personally.”

Regina Smith, director of the Jenkins Law Library, commented, “We are delighted to be working with the Philadelphia Bar Association on this project. Our database, palawlibrary.com, is a great legal research tool. It was a pleasure to work with Chancellor Audrey Talley. Her initiative to provide a database program for bar members will now become a reality.”

The agreement provides for a substantial discount to palawlibrary.com for bar association members. In return, the bar association will extensively market the product to its members.

Marjorie Weiner, president of ALM-Pa., said, “Audrey Talley’s commitment to creating this benefit for bar association members is to be commended. Palawlibrary provides timely court cases and other critical legal information to its subscribers. We’re proud that our agreement with the Philadelphia Bar Association brings this product within easier reach to its members.”

Palawlibrary.com is an integrated, Pennsylvania-focused legal research Web site that provides easy and inexpensive access to judicial opinions, trial listings, court rules, news archives from The Legal Intelligencer and Pennsylvania Law Weekly, and other legal information. A Lawyer’s Life
By Johnnie Cochran with David Fishe

Johnnie Cochran had been famed as a folksy oratory in Los Angeles courtrooms since the 1960s, but the 1995 O.J. Simpson trial catapulted him to international fame–a status he gladly acknowledges in this bare-knuckles memoir of his years in court.

The Case Against Lawyers
By Catherine Crier

Crier, a former district attorney, lawyer, judge and host of Court TV's Crier Report, argues that 'the rule of law has become a source of power and influence, not liberty and justice' and is being used by lawyers and others to the detriment of society. She sees U.S. law as often not clearly understood, fair, or reasonable and as more adversarial than truth seeking.

Wild Bill: The Legend and Life of William O. Douglas
By Bruce Allen Murphy

Murphy, a judicial scholar and biographer of three Supreme Court justices, reveals the genius and the warts of William O. Douglas, arguably the greatest influence on American jurisprudence.
