A Book of Legal Lists: The Best and Worst in American Law
By Bernard Schwartz

A Book of Legal Lists is the work of the personal selections of University of Tulsa law professor and constitutional law scholar Schwartz. Schwartz has identified what, in his view, are the ten best Supreme Court decisions, the ten worst Supreme Court decisions, the ten best Supreme Court Justices, the ten worst Supreme Court Justices, and so on. The lists themselves are interesting and thought-provoking, but the real strength of the book lies in short annotations that present a readable, concise, and authoritative background for each item.

Online Research Discount Available

by Daniel A. Cirucci
Philadelphia Bar Reporter

Volume 32, Number 9, September 2003

Palawlibrary.com - the most comprehensive and thorough online legal research service dedicated to Pennsylvania law - is now available to Philadelphia Bar Association members at special discounted rates thanks to an agreement reached between American Lawyer Media - Pa. and the Association. The agreement provides specially priced subscriptions to this online service as well as other benefits to association members.

The agreement was finalized earlier this summer and the new service is now accessible via the Association’s Web site at www.philadelphiabar.org, where full details are available. The agreement represents a significant partnership between the legal research service and Pennsylvania’s largest county bar association. It also fulfills a commitment made by Chancellor Audrey C. Talley to provide state-of-the-art, easy- access legal research to Association members at special affordable rates.

“The Philadelphia Bar Association is delighted to join with American Lawyer Media and Jenkins Law Library to provide this valuable and economical service to our members,” said Talley. “Palawlibrary.com is the only real research tool for county law. It fills a pressing need - a need that we have long wanted to fill for Philadelphia lawyers.

“This new partnership brings together the power of ALM, Jenkins Law Library and the Bar Association to provide an in-depth research and information package tailored to the everyday needs of our members and presented as a real member benefit. We expect that Association members will respond enthusiastically to this new service. We look forward to the continued growth and development of palawlibrary.com as part of our continuing plan to help our members advance professionally and personally.”

“Our database, palawlibrary.com, is a great legal research tool. It was a pleasure to work with Chancellor Audrey Talley. Her initiative to provide a database program for bar members will now become a reality,” said Jenkins Law Library Director Regina Smith.

Palawlibrary.com has more Pennsylvania county court opinions than any other online legal research tool. Additionally, it searches Pennsylvania court opinions, legal newspapers (The Legal Intelligencer and Pennsylvania Law Weekly), jury verdicts and settlements, trial listings and suit filing information.

The site also features daily court notices, Pennsylvania D&C Reports, and Pennsylvania state and local court rules. Palawlibrary.com is designed exactly for the legal professional working in the state of Pennsylvania and local counties. Philadelphia Bar Association members can now save nearly 50 percent off palawlibrary.com monthly and annual rates. As an added bonus, Association members receive exclusive discounts on Jenkins services, including CLE, (does not apply to Jenkins membership) and on annual subscriptions to The Legal Intelligencer, Pennsylvania Law Weekly and Law Journal newsletters. A 30-day free trial of the service is also available to members.

In heralding the arrangement between the Bar Association and palawlibrary.com, Marjorie Weiner, president of ALM-Pa., said: “Chancellor Audrey Talley’s commitment to creating this benefit for Association members is to be commended. Palawlibrary.com provides timely court cases and other critical legal information to its subscribers. We’re proud that our agreement with the Bar Association brings this product within easier reach to its members.”

For more information about this new service, visit www.philadelphiabar.org and click on the button that says “up to 50 percent off” or visit www.palawlibrary.com.
