Wish I’d Thought of That |
The Wiffle Ball. Fleece. The Web. And now this. A million bucks in 4 months. Sigh. Why don’t I ever think of this stuff? |

More Google Traffic Figures |
Update to my earlier blog: Google Book Search traffic increased over 300% during the period November-December. It now accounts for 1.5% of all Google traffic. Why did GBS get a bump? Google added a “Try your search again on Google Book Search” link at the bottom of the results page. (Details at Search Engine Watch.) While you’re at the bottom of the results page, click on the “Search Within Results” link as well. |

Head of Outreach Services Wins 3rd Place in AALL Photo Contest |
Jenkins’ own Ida Weingram, Head of Outreach Services, had 2 photos published in this month’s AALL Spectrum. Her shot of Library Director Regina Smith took 3rd place in the “Librarians as Mentors” category of the AALL photo contest. Her other portrait of Joan Mazuchowski and Lexis rep Michael Bannon appeared in the “Day in the Life of the Law Library Community” section. Kudos to Ida! |

And the Winner Is … |
… Google. On December 15th, they agreed to buy 5% of AOL for a billion dollars. Concise details available via NY Times (registration required). Yahoo and Comcast backed out of the bidding early. But Microsoft hung in there till the end. The deal ensures that Microsoft will remain a distant third in the world of search. Wonder if any chairs were thrown around in Redmond this weekend? Postscript 12/19/2005: The Times reported that AOL was also granted $300 million of Google AdWords to promote its content and that Google will feature AOL content whenever appropriate in a OneBox on the results page. Postscript 12/20/2005: The Times (them again!) gave further details: AOL can sell advertising on Google, AOL and Google will make their instant messengers compatible (similar to the MSN-Yahoo agreement in October), and the 2 parties will collaborate on video search. OK, I’m done with this. |
