The Enemy of My Enemy of My Enemy? |
Or more strange bedfellows. Yesterday it was announced that Google and Dell reached a deal to pre-install Google Desktop and the Google Toolbar on new PCs. Also the home page for the browser will be a co-branded Dell/Google site. Not to be outdone, Yahoo and eBay announced that they are partnering. Yahoo will be the “exclusive third-party provider” of ads throughout eBay’s site. Yahoo will also embrace eBay’s PayPal system for purchases on Yahoo. They’re also developing a co-branded — I’ve used that term twice already! — toolbar. The alliances are now as follows: Google/AOL/Dell v. Yahoo/eBay v. Amazon/Microsoft. |

Yet More Google Traffic Figures |
I’ve blogged about this before. Anyway, 95% of Google’s traffic comes from their top 3 services: Search leads with 80% (duh), followed by Images (9.5%) and Gmail (5.5%). Want more details? |

Cleaning Up After the Swarm |
Google finally released Google Notebook, a software download that lets you clip text, images and links from sites and dump them into a (you guessed it!) notebook that you can access from anywhere. Sorta like Yahoo My Web 2.0 Beta. And more fancy than copy-paste into Notepad. Speaking of Yahoo, they announced a preview of their redesigned homepage. Still too cluttered for my taste. I'll stick with their dedicated search page. All the Web — remember them?! — now features Livesearch, which gives you search suggestions as you type. I know, I know … Yahoo launched Instant Search previously and Google has Google Suggest. So why should I care about Livesearch? Yahoo Instant Search and Google Suggest just use alphabetical order. Type in do and they suggest dog. Livesearch is different. Type in deliver and you get flower delivery, stand and deliver, etc.:
