In Google We Trust |
This week Google launched Google Checkout, a kinda-sorta competitor to eBay’s PayPal. Google Checkout lets you to store your personal information on Google – credit card, home address, email address, etc. — and they act as the middleman with participating vendors. I’m not a big shopper, whether it be via the Web or at a bricks-and-mortar store, so this doesn’t get me real excited. But it does make me wonder whether entrusting so much of our personal information to Google is such a hot idea. Take a look at the privacy policies for Google Calendar, Google Checkout, Google Desktop, Google Notebook, Google Spreadsheets, Google Talk, and Picasa Web. The bottom line is they are collecting data about what you do online. And they have your stuff on their servers. |

By Charles P. Kindregan, Maureen McBrienThis book is a unique summary of the evolving legal issues and solutions which characterize the current state of assisted reproductive technology (ART) law and science. There is no nationally recognized law on the subject, although some kinds of ART have been in use for decades, and there have been hundreds of court decisions on various issues growing out of ART services. Some Insurance Companies Reimburse Online Consultations |
Have you ever spent half a day getting to, waiting in, and traveling back from your doctor’s office just to get a prescription for an antibiotic? More and more doctors are consulting with their patients online. Not only is this a big time saver for the patient, but also a time saver for the doctor while boosting his office efficiency. And the best part - some of the larger insurance companies are actually covering part of the online consultation, leaving the patient with a manageable copay. These insurance companies include Aetna in California and Florida and Blue Cross of Florida. This is a trend that I hope continues and grows! For the full article see: Wessel, Orlando Sentinel/Contra Costa Times, 6/8/06. |
