The eight blogs (or blawgs) cited were: Sentencing Law and Policy (24 citations in 19 cases), The Volokh Conspiracy (2 cites), Crime and Federalism (1), De Novo (1), How Appealing (1), Legal Theory Blog (1), Patently-O (1), and The UCL Practitioner (1).”

Sick of This Yet?

Perhaps this will be the last posting on this topic for awhile. But I doubt it, ’cause Google’s got $10 billion burning a hole in its pocket and it’s going to wind up buying somebody soon.

Anyway, today Google announced a deal with eBay:

“Google will become the exclusive text-based advertising provider for eBay outside the United States. In addition, eBay and Google plan to integrate and launch “click-to-call” advertising functionality that leverage both Skype and Google Talk globally in each company’s respective shopping and search platforms.”

You may remember that at the end of May Yahoo and eBay announced they were partnering for eBay services inside the U.S. So now the alliances are as follows:

  • Google / AOL / MySpace / eBay (non-U.S.) / Viacom / Dell v.
  • Yahoo / eBay (domestic) v.
  • Microsoft / Amazon / Facebook.

Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.
By G. Edward White

Known as the “Great Dissenter,” Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. wrote some of the most eloquent opinions in the history of the United States Supreme Court. A brilliant legal mind who served on the high court into his nineties, Holmes was responsible for some of the most important judicial opinions of the twentieth century.  A new volume in the Lives and Legacy series, this marvelous short biography offers an ideal introduction to a towering figure in American law.

Saving Face(book)

After Google beat them to AOL and Myspace, Microsoft has finally landed a big fish: Facebook. They’ve just signed an agreement to provide advertising for the social networking site aimed at college students.

So to update my Enemy of My Enemy of My Enemy post yet again, the alliances are now as follows: Google/AOL/MySpace/Viacom/Dell v. Yahoo/eBay v. Microsoft/Amazon/Facebook.

The Scopes Trial: A Brief History with Documents
By Richard P. Moran, Jeffrey P. Moran

The 1925 trial of John Scopes, charged in Tennessee as illegally teaching evolution to his class, has been called the trial of the century. In a lively interpretative introduction to one of the watershed events in American history, Jeffrey P. Moran analyzes the trial and its impact on the moral fiber of the country and the educational system, and examines the race and gender issues that arose from the debate. Political cartoons and photographs add a colorful dimension to this collection.

Internet Librarian Again Visits Michael Smerconish Talk Show

Dan Giancaterino, Internet Librarian, joined the Michael Smerconish Talk Show on Wednesday, August 16th at 8:15 a.m. (1210 AM) to discuss MySpace, Facebook and related privacy/security issues such as the recent release of 20 million search queries by AOL. Dan has also created a list of the sites he discussed on the air.

In Case You Tuned In

For those of you who heard my spot on Michael Smerconish’s talk show this morning, here are the URLs of the Web sites I discussed:

AOL Search Database
Search the 20 million queries entered by 650,000 members that AOL accidentally released into the wild.

YouTube
Browse or search for user-submitted video clips. Love to watch skateboarders fall onto railings? This is the place for you!

Zillow
Their “Zestimate” will tell you what your house — or your neighbor’s — is worth. Satellite and aerial images are included, too. If you’re on the road scoping out a property, send a text message to z@labs.zillow.com with the property address in the text field and Zillow will email you back a Zestimate!

What … you couldn’t write these down while you were driving? Puh-leeze. You’re from Philly.

Seems Like Just Yesterday

Gary Price points to a Computer Industry Almanac press release about the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the IBM PC this month. Bottom line: 1.5 billion PCs have been sold worldwide, with a value of more than $3 billion.

On a related(?) note, MTV also turned 25 this month. Now that’s real news.

Dell Battery Recall

You may have heard this already, but Dell is recalling batteries that have been overheating and setting laptops on fire. I have one of the potentially affected laptops - but I haven’t turned it off to check the battery yet.

Learn more about this recall and share it with your friends and family (especially if they got their laptop between April 1, 2004 and July 18, 2006).
