Google Chrome, Day +1

I’ve got some issues with Firefox.  After using it for a whole day, can I say whether or not Google Chrome is any better?

CPU – So far, so good.  GC doesn’t use anywhere near as much CPU as FF.  Even when it’s downloading lists of malware sites, GC doesn’t appear to use more than 50% of my CPU.

Printing – Prints as well as Safari does.  Only drawback is the lack of Print Preview.  (I’m real conscious now about printing extra pages, unessential pages.)

Bookmarks – I can add to and organize my existing bookmarks imported from Firefox, but I can’t export ‘em to an HTML file.  GC’s Omnibox, which gives me fulltext search of my browsing history, is supposed to render the whole concept of bookmarks obsolete.  But there’s no school like the Old School.  I want my own bookmarks file.  (Google’s said they want to add this in the future.  Get cracking.)

Other Good Stuff

Detatching tabs is cool!  I created an application window for my Gmail and Yahoo Mail accounts.  They have no chrome — i.e., no browser buttons and address box.  They look just like desktop apps.

Curious folks like myself can type Shift-Esc to view GC’s Task Manager for any tab I have open.

Meh

I don’t look at porn, so Incognito Windows, which don’t save my browsing history or cookies, don’t really matter to me.

The search box — which lets me type A [tab] to search Amazon direct from the Omnibox — is okay, I guess, but I have to train myself to remember to do it.

For more info on these features, check out the comic book.

Bottom Line

I may go with a hybrid approach — use Safari as my browser, but use GC application windows for Gmail and Yahoo Mail.  But I’m ever so close to ditching Firefox.
