Lori Drew Walks

Last December I posted about my ambivalence with the verdict in the Lori Drew cyberbullying case. On one hand, I think she did something pretty jerky. On the other, trying to equate her violation of MySpace’s Terms of Service with computer hacking is really scary. Apparently I wasn’t alone in being conflicted — last Thursday, U.S. District Judge George Wu overturned the guilty verdict in the case:

“It basically leaves it up to a website owner to determine what is a crime, and therefore it criminalizes what would be a breach of contract.”

While it looks as if the criminal phase of this case is over, Drew may still face a civil suit.
