A Novel Way to Get Access to the Source Code

Note: This was originally scheduled to be posted on Monday August 2, but was delayed by hardware problems.

U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Leonard P. Stark (District of Delaware) has ordered Facebook to turn over its source code to Leader Technologies, Inc., as part of the discovery proceedings in Leader’s patent infringement suit against the social networking giant. In response, Facebook has stated that Leader’s claim for the code is “specious” and that the judge formerly handling the case had already rejected it.

Oy! Source code is a company’s crown jewels. When Viacom sued Google and demanded that Google provide them with their code for both Google search and YouTube, Google fought like the Dickens and won.
