Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania's Rules of Professional Conduct were adopted October 16, 1987 by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, effective April 1, 1988, replacing the Code of Professional Responsibility. See 17 PA Bulletin 4509, November 7, 1987.

Rules

  • 204 PA Code 81, contains the Rules of Professional Conduct. Located in REF and PA sections of the library.

  • West's Pennsylvania Rules of Court
Contains the Rules of Professional Conduct. Revised annually.

  • Pennsylvania Ethics Handbook
Features annotations to the Pennsylvania Rules of Professional Conduct. Also includes an overview of the Pennsylvania disciplinary system.

  • Title 42 of Purdons, rules volume, contains the superseded Code of Professional Responsibility necessary for misconduct occurring before April 1, 1988, and the Rules of Professional Conduct effective April 1, 1988. Located in Reference and Pennsylvania sections of the library. Annotated.

  • CITATOR: Use Shepard's Pennsylvania Citations to shepardize the Code of Professional Responsibility and the Rules of Professional Conduct. Located in Pennsylvania and Reference sections of the library.
Ethics Opinions

Opinions are issued by the Committee on Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility of the Pennsylvania Bar Association.

Disciplinary Board Decisions

These decisions are published in the District and County Reports as "In re: Anonymous". Ex. 5 DB 80 is in 10 D&C 3d 16. The board issues private decisions, but can recommend disbarment or punishment to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. This would then be published as a regular supreme court opinion. The decision remains anonymous unless the Board decides to disbar. Shepardize the District & County cite to get the Supreme Court cite. For D&C cites check the following index in Reference, or call the Disciplinary Board, 215-560-6296.
