Court Records & Briefs FAQs
| Question |
Answer |
| Why does it often take 1-3 business days to get a requested document? |
- The courts send the records and briefs to Jenkins in paper format. We then send them to a company which converts these records and briefs to microfiche for archival purposes. The microfiche is returned to Jenkins and becomes a part of our collection.
- If the item(s) you need are presently out of the library being microfiched, Jenkins can recall them for you. The records and briefs usually arrive at Jenkins in 1-3 business days in electronic format.
|
| Will the index continue to grow? |
- Yes, new items are indexed as soon as they arrive from the courts. In addition, Jenkins plans to add older items to the index, so that eventually everything in the collection will be searchable.
|
| Can records and briefs still be viewed at the library? |
- Of course. Most of the collection is on microfiche. The library owns microfiche machines, which allow users to view and make copies of documents. Any records and briefs that we have received at the library electronically can be viewed at a designated computer station. There are charges to print or burn documents to CD-ROM.
- Even if you plan on viewing the records and briefs at the library, we still recommend that you search the index and request documents before your visit. Whether documents are off-site or in-house, we will retrieve them and notify you when they are ready.
