Dun & Bradstreet (D&B)

Covers 16.5 million public and private companies (43,000 in-depth) and 14 million executives. Free information includes financials (3 years), news headlines, press releases, and SEC filings. Subscribers get access to overview and history, executive biographies, competitors, historical financials, family tree, and more. In 2007, Hoover's planned to add data for the top 250,000 private companies in the U.S., ranked by total sales.

Charities OnLine Database

Pennsylvania Department of State, Bureau of Charitable Organizations

Search by name, EIN, or location. As of 5/23/2012, more than 10,171 charities and 484 professional solicitors and counsels are currently registered with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Charitable Organizations.

Foundation Center Fact Finder

Features the Foundation Finder (basic information on U.S. grantmaking organizations), 990 Finder (scanned copies of IRS Form 990 for U.S. nonprofits), and Trend Tracker (lets you chart financial information for the 20,000 largest foundations).

GuideStar

Philanthropic Research Inc.

Search a database of more than 1.7 million nonprofit organizations by name, keyword, city, state, and zip code. With a free registration, you can access scanned copies of the organization's IRS Form 990. A subscription is required to access other information, such as financials.

North American Industry Classification System (NAICS)

U.S. Census Bureau

NAICS has replaced the U.S. Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system. It was developed jointly by the US, Canada, and Mexico to provide new comparability in statistics about business activity across North America.
