vLex: Using the Cited Authorites and Cited In Tabs
If you are viewing a case in vLex and you want to know the relationship between that case and prior and subsequent cases, check out the “Cited Authorities” and “Cited In” features. These helpful citator tabs are located directly above the case when in the document view.
The Cited Authorities tab provides a list of authorities that are cited within the current judgment. vLex includes both case law and legislation in the Cited Authorities tab. The list provides the citation to the case or legislation and its treatment type in relation to the current document. vLex also includes the number of cases citing the result and the strength of the authority.
The Cited In tab offers a list of documents that have cited the current case as precedent. The results show the full document citation along with a preview of where your case is cited within the result. vLex also gives a treatment type for each result. The results can be sorted by relevance, most cited, date, and most visited.
On the left-hand side of the page, vLex offers additional filtering options to further refine your Cited In results. Users can filter by content type, jurisdiction, and date.
