Google “Fairness Hearing” Set for October 7

U.S. District Court Judge Denny Chin has set October 7 as the date for the “fairness hearing” for the Authors Guild-Google Books settlement. If the Justice Department wants to present its views in writing — and, according to the DoJ, “the issues raised by the proposed settlement warrant further inquiry” — they have until September 18.

On a sort of related note (and because it just popped up in my reader), Silicon Alley Insider reports that the DoJ is reviewing the Apple-AT&T exclusive iPhone deal. Apparently government regulation is back with a vengeance.
