Accessing Pennsylvania Committee Reports and Hearings
The Pennsylvania Legislature typically does not reprint Committee Reports or Hearings in the Legislative Journals of the House and Senate. One way to find these documents is to contact the library and/or committee responsible for archiving the reports and hearings.
If you are looking for Committee Reports, try contacting the following sources:
- Senate Library: 717.787.6120
- House Records Center: 717.783.3866
- Joint State Government Commission: 717.787.4397
- For current Committee Reports, try contacting the Committee directly. Find lists of the House and Senate Committees on the General Assembly's website.
Reports can be accessed by date, sponsor, committee, or subject. Please note that Committee Reports may not be very substantive and are often limited in scope.
If you are looking for Committee Hearings, try contacting the following sources:
- Pennsylvania Archives: 717.783.3281
- Senate Library: 717.787.6120
Hearings can be accessed by date, sponsor, committee, or subject. Committee Hearings are usually held on legislation that is significant or controversial. Please note that many proposals for legislation do not involve any hearings.
In Pennsylvania, hearings are open to the public, and newspapers often publish accounts of these hearings. It may benefit you to do a newspaper search for additional information. Jenkins members have access to many Pennsylvania newspapers, including the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News, on NewsBank.
