The Pennsylvania Supreme Court Celebrates its 300th Anniversary

  •

Happy Birthday to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court! The Pennsylvania Supreme Court was established in 1722 through the Judiciary Act and is celebrating its 300th anniversary. This Court is not only the highest court in Pennsylvania, but also the oldest appellate court in the country.

To commemorate this anniversary, the PA Supreme Court has a series of events planned, including the publication of a new historical booklet called The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. The booklet touches upon some of the Court's most significant decisions related to civil rights, labor, and constitutional law. It also offers an excellent overview of the Court's history and evolution.  In addition, the booklet has photographs of some of the beautiful artwork in the various Supreme Court courtrooms.

According to Chief Justice Max BaerThe Supreme Court of Pennsylvania booklet "will allow members of the public – including students and teachers – to not only recognize and celebrate this historic milestone with us, but understand how the work and role of the Court intersects with significant moments of our state’s history and paves the way for the future."
