Law Day 2025

  •

The Philadelphia Bar Association, amongst other national bar associations, are taking part in the annual Law Day of Action. Introduced in 1958 by President D. Eisenhower and envisioned by previous ABA President Charles S. Rhyne in 1957, Law Day is an annual commemoration held on May 1st to celebrate the rule of law and cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal system. A gathering will be held on May 1st, noon, at City Hall for Philadelphia based legal professionals to defend the rule of law, judicial independence, and the independence of the legal profession. To learn more about the history of law day and its previous themes, see the ABA's History of Law day web page

At this event, legal professionals will retake the Pennsylvania Attorney's Oath to show their dedication to the profession and its values. From lawdayofaction.org, the core principals for Law Day 2025 are as follows:

  • Upholding the Rule of Law
  • Defending Judicial Independence
  • Protecting the Independence of the Legal Profession
  • Non-Partisan and Non-Violent Action
  • Promoting Public Understanding

Join the Philadelphia Bar Association and other legal professionals for the Law Day of Action 2025 at City Hall North Portico, May 1st, at 12PM. More information about the event can be found here

Can't make the event? The American Bar Association will be hosting an online program called "The Constitution’s Promise: Out of Many, One". The program will feature discussions about the Law Day theme with Justice Stephen Breyer, Richard Haass (former president of the Council on Foreign Affairs), Nick Capodice (Civics 101 podcast), Emma Humphries (iCivics), and David McCollough III (American Exchange Project), along with ABA President Bill Bay and Law Day Chair Tommy Preston, Jr. To sign up for the program, see their webpage for the event.
