Julia Shapiro, JD

Julia is an Executive Director and the Founder of Major, Lindsey & Africa's Hire an Esquire.

As an attorney, Julia saw that the way that people worked was changing — even in the slow-to-change legal industry. In 2013, she founded Hire an Esquire, a tech-enabled legal staffing concept whose proprietary online platform analyzes a candidate's experience and expertise to best match them with contract and permanent positions at law firms and legal departments of all sizes. Hire an Esquire developed proprietary technology around analyzing and matching a candidate's soft skills to jobs that proved to improve hiring outcomes while reducing bias.

Julia began her career as an attorney and has taught legal research and writing as an adjunct professor at Temple University. From her experience building Hire an Esquire, she has developed a special interest and expertise in how regulation and policy impact the new economy and how socioeconomic status, race and gender impact career trajectories. She has written for publications, such as Bloomberg Law and ALM, on topics from the legal industry to bias in hiring practices.

In 2015 Julia was named one of LinkedIn's Next Wave: Top Professionals Under 35, and in 2016 she made the Fastcase 50.
