Jenkins On Your Desktop: Presidential Documents on HeinOnline
Check out HeinOnline's collection of Presidential Documents. Resources include the Daily Compilation of Presidential Documents (2009-2012) and its predecessor, the Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents (1965-2009), the official publication of presidential statements, messages, remarks, and other materials released by the White House Press Secretary. The Presidential Documents collection also includes the Economic Report of the President (1974-2012), an annual report written by the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors that overviews the nation's economic progress and includes data appendices.
Some other items of interest include the Complete Works of Abraham Lincoln compiled by John G. Nicolay and John Hay (1894), Hearings before the President's Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy (1964), Inaugural Addresses of the Presidents of the United States (1789-1989), the Nixon Grand Jury Records (1975), and Public Papers of the Presidents of the United States (1931-2009).
Titles written by former presidents include Congressional Government: A Study in American Politics by Woodrow Wilson (1885), Theodore Roosevelt: An Autobiography (1926), and United States and Peace by William H. Taft (1914). There are also a number of publications about many former presidents, including George Washington, John Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, and more.
To access this collection, use your last name and member number to log into Jenkins' website. From either the Member Center or the list of Member Databases, select HeinOnline. Once in Hein, from the Subscribed Libraries list on the left-hand side select U.S. Presidential Documents.
Hein automatically defaults to a browse option with an alphabetical listing by document title. To search this collection, click on the Search tab below the HeinOnline logo. The search box will appear on the left-hand side of the screen. For in-depth search options, including the ability to search a specific title, click on "Advanced Search" or "Field Search".
