Jenkins On Your Desktop: Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News on NewsBank
NewsBank has an archived collection of the Philadelphia Inquirer back to 1981 and the Philadelphia Daily News back to 1978. Other Pennsylvania newspapers available on NewsBank include the Bucks County Courier Times (2002-current), The Daily Pennsylvanian: University of Pennsylvania (1991-current), Metro - Philadelphia (2005-current), The Patriot-News (1986-current), Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (1990-current), and more.
To access this collection, use your last name and member number to log into Jenkins' website. From either the Member Center or the list of Member Databases, select NewsBank. Once in NewsBank, select United States from the Search Shortcuts in the middle of the screen. To access Pennsylvania newspapers, either select Pennsylvania from the list of locations or click on the state of PA on the map.
This brings you to an alphabetical listing of Pennsylvania newspapers available on NewsBank. To browse articles from a specific date, click on the title of the newspaper you would like to browse then enter the desired date (mm-dd-yyyy).
To search a specific news source, like the Philadelphia Inquirer or the Philadelphia Daily News, scroll down and check the box next to your desired source. Multiple sources can be searched at once. Scroll back to the top of the page and enter your search terms in the search box on the top right of the screen.
NewsBank has multiple search fields, including All Text, Lead/First Paragraph, Headline, Author/Byline, and Date. NewsBank also recognizes Boolean and Proximity operators. Boolean operators AND, OR, and NOT and Proximity operators ADJ[x] and NEAR[x] must be in all caps.
