Health Coverage & Medical Billing Protections for NJ & PA Residents (Webinar)
Our free CLE webinars are available to Jenkins members only. Join Jenkins today to enjoy this member benefit and more!
Representation and advocacy for patients with medical debt is essential. One recent survey found that 41 percent of U.S. adults have unpaid healthcare bills. Medical bills are rife with errors, and billing systems are complex. Further, while nonprofit hospitals are required to have financial assistance policies, many eligible patients never learn about available assistance. Finally, many people who are eligible for Medicaid coverage or for subsidies to purchase private health insurance on Pennie (Pennsylvania’s official health insurance marketplace) do not know about these options or have difficulty with the application process.
This one-hour CLE will include a discussion about how to address medical bills, handle medical debt collectors, and obtain insurance coverage. The presenters will also discuss pending state legislation to address medical debt. This class will include practical tips for assisting patients with hospital financial assistance applications and avoiding costly medical payment products.
Class participants will receive a page of resources for attorneys who have pro bono cases involving medical debt, including contact information for local Pennsylvania and New Jersey organizations that can help their clients apply for Medicaid, appeal insurance denials, apply for hospital financial assistance, and more.
