Jenkins On Your Desktop: Fashion Magazines on General OneFile

Twice a year the fashion industry descends upon New York City for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The Spring 2014 fashion shows took place this past week and conclude today. Spring collections from Diane Von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, Vera Wang, and more were shown, and editors from many fashion magazines were in the audience.

To celebrate the newest fashions, check out General OneFile's collection of fashion and beauty magazines. General OneFile's fashion collection includes a number of titles in full text, such as Allure (5/1/2004-current), GQ - Gentleman's Quarterly (2/1/2008-current), Harper's Bazaar (6/1/1999-current), Marie Claire (12/1/2001-current), and Vogue (6/1/2004-current). Other titles, like In Style (12/1/1997-current), have only indexing available. Some publications have embargoes between publication date and posting on General OneFile, and full text of some articles may not be available because the publisher is not the rights holder.

To access General OneFile, use your last name and member number to log into Jenkins' website. From either the Member Center or the list of Member Databases, select General OneFile. To view a specific title, from the gold menu bar select Publication Search. Search for the title of the magazine you are looking for - make sure to un-check the "documents with full text" and "peer-reviewed publications" selections.

To search all the fashion and beauty magazines, select Advanced Search from the gold menu bar. Enter your keyword(s) into the first search box. In the second search box, enter fashion and change the drop-down menu to Subject. Make sure to un-check the "documents with full text" and "peer-reviewed publications" selections. A date restriction can also be added.

General OneFile search results default to Academic Journals. To change this, from the menu on the left side of the search results list click "Magazines". For large search results, it may be helpful to "Search within results", also located on the left side of the results list. Other post-search limiters include publication title and date.

General OneFile is a membership resource available to all Jenkins members.
